Flying for Purpose: NZAero Joins the 2025 Red Planet Software Outback Air Race to Support Remote Medical Services in Australia
Aug 05, 2025
This August, NZAero is proud to be participating in the 2025 Red Planet Software Outback Air Race, a 4,400-kilometre aviation time trial across some of the most remote parts of Australia, as Team 27 –Kiwi Express. But this isn’t just any race — it’s a rally for impact, raising critical funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS), an organisation that provides essential medical care to outback communities who would otherwise go without.
We’re entering the race with our latest utility aircraft, the 750XL-II SuperPac XSTOL — designed for extreme short takeoff and landing (XSTOL) operations, rugged terrain, and real-world reliability. From unpaved bush strips and roads to remote medical outposts, this aircraft was built to serve where others can’t.
Why We’re Taking Part
At NZAero, we understand the power of aviation to connect, support, and protect lives — especially in places where no road can reach. The Outback Air Race is not only an opportunity to demonstrate the SuperPac’s capabilities in its natural environment, but also a way to stand in support of the RFDS and the critical work they do.
While based in New Zealand, NZAero has long supported aviation efforts across Australasia and beyond. The challenges faced by operators in the Australian outback — vast distances, remote landing zones, urgent medical needs — are exactly the kind of scenarios our aircraft are designed to meet.
Meet the SuperPac XSTOL
The SuperPac is our newest aircraft to date:
- XSTOL performance: Extreme Short Take-Off and Landing. Operates on ultra-short, rough airstrips
- High payload versatility: Configurable for cargo, medevac, training, or passenger missions
- Modern engineering: Designed and built in New Zealand for global operators who demand reliability and performance
The Outback Air Race gives us a chance to showcase this capability in a real-world setting.
